Why I chose this

I am very passionate about music. Learning how it came about and how it influenced was awesome to see. I was raised listening to this kind of music and I was interested in who was a big part and some events that happened. I wanted to learn about the almighty Elvis Presely and Prince. I watched the movie "Purple Rain" and heard a lot of Prince's music. I am more of an old school person. I don't really like the "new school" as people call it. Also my mom is in love with Elvis so I wanted to do this so I could tell her some facts about him. She is also in love with Prince so I get to do the same thing with him. I got to learn more about the music I loved and was interested in. I also did it because I thought it would be fun and a cool topic to study.

Timeline

In 1877 Thomas Edison invents the phonograph for playing back stored sounds. The first recording he makes is "Mary Had a Little Lamb." In 1915 Chicago Automatic Time Machine creates the jukebox. In 1931 Adolph Rickenbacker invents the electric guitar. Billboard puts out its first record sales chart in 1936. In 1942 Savoy is founded in Newark (NJ) to promote black music. In 1947 Billboard writer Jerry Wexler invents the term "rhythm and blues" for electric blues. In 1948 the magazine Billboard introduces charts for "hillbilly" and "race" records. Then in the Billboard chart for "race" records becomes the chart for "rhythm and blues" records. In 1958 Elvis goes to the army.

Prince's song "Purple Rain" is a tribute to his song "Purple Haze." Jimi Hendrix created the song "Little Wing" in 145 seconds. That's about the lenght of the song. Slash's real name is Saul Hudson. In the 50's Little Richard kicked Jimi Hendrix out of his group for stealing the spot light.

Importance

Rock and Roll music is really important. It made music what it is today. It is a big part of music to this day. It is an important genre of music becuase it has the power to not only influence but sustain itself through generations of people. It has influenced other people make other genres such as pop, hip-hop, heavy metal, and many other kinds of music. It gave people the oppritunity to speak there mind about whatever they wanted. It also gave us some of the technology we have today. People wanted to be able to hear the music better so they upgraded there supplies to make a cd player, radio, and all of that stuff. The bands we have today is because of rock and roll. We listen to what we do is because of rock and roll. The bands you like today is based on some part of the past.

World Perspective

Everyone has there own views of rock and roll. The crazy people like it. They are the ones that live life to the fullest and get excited for the little things. The normal people that live there life like nothing don't like it. It not only big in the United States but also in London, Europe, Holland, Amsterdam, and many more places. For an example the group called the Scorpians came from Europe. Some people thought that rock and roll was less mature or they didn't take it serious. One of the huge places it is big in is in Britain. People didn't really care for Great Britain because of World War 2. American's didn't find intrest in Britian but when it came to rock and roll they were really open minded and interested.
